Having an organized closet is very important, at the very least for me. One thing for sure is that if you have an organized closet, it really saves you a lot of time and gets your things found in times of hurry or rushing for time. Another one step closer is that if the closet is designed according to your design needs, it is a perfect closet for both the current and the future. If you wish to DIY and design your own closet, read on and I will guide you along.

Step number 1:

To have a closet that exactly fits in the space that is available for the closet, you will need to take accurate measurement of the dimensions of the closet size, i.e the length, width and height.

Step number 2:

Next you will need to estimate how much items you are going to place in the closet. This part of the planning needs to be thorough in the sense you will need to also pre-plan the different sections of storing different items in the closet. Also estimate the number of different item by type or categories or colour.

Step number 3:

In order to sketch the closet on paper to scale, you only need to follow a simple rule which is to sketch the closet using a 1 inch is to 1 foot scale and you will get an exact ratio on paper and to the real closet.

Step number 4:

In your sketch during planning phase, you need to take note of the amount and type of items you want to place in your closet. Give you an example, if you are going to store shoes in your closet, you will need a shoe rack that is large enough for your shoes size or if you have long dress or oversized clothing, you will need to pre-plan room for those items for storage.

Step number 5:

To make a more robust planning, on the sketch you can also label each compartment with labels like “clothes”, “pants”, “shoes”, “jackets” or “belts” etc. Also note down how many items you planned to store in each space. Overall this way, you can have a bird eye view of the design of the closet and how it will function once built.

Step number 6:

For the closet to be future proof, you will need abit imagination and imagine what kind of items you will be placing in your closet in the near future. You can choose to get rid of unwanted items and make space for new items or you can expand the dimension of your ideal customized DIY closet.

Step number 7:

Lastly, you will need to choose what type material will make up your closet, it can be made of woods or metal or plastic in general. When choosing the material, cost, value and weight of the items you are going to place will come into the picture. If you are planning to store more valuable stuffs, stronger material like woods or metals will be a better choice for sturdier closet.

Advice and Warnings

During the planning stage, do check whether will the closet doors interfere with the drawers and also do leave some rooms for an increase in number of items going to be place in the closet.

There are something you need to know when you want to do-it-yourself in assembling the closet together. Below is a quick step by step guide on how to go about doing it.

Firstly, you will need to clear and remove all the items on your old closet. Next you will also need to dismantle and remove all existing shelves, frames and wheels if any. Thereafter you will need to measure the height, depth and width for good planning of closet installation.

Secondly, although you might already know what type of closet organizers you are going for but here are some guidelines for you if you haven’t really choose one yet. You can go for wire organizer if you are on a tight budget and the finishing look might not be as good as a wooden closet organizer but it saves you some money on the other end. Or you can go for a wooden closet organizer which is much more expensive and requires more help during assembly time but the finishing look is good!

Thirdly, you will need to know how much storage space you need for your new closet. You can choose between a kit closet which is already done up for you and you just need to install it or you can choose to buy a customized closet when you can custom made the closet to your likings but one thing is that the cost will be higher.

Fourthly, you will need to do things abit more technical here in this step, you might need some help from professionals if you need.

From the location of the start of the closet track, draw a level line.

Locate the position of the studs and screws for the support rails of the closet and then drill holes at the marked heights for the wall mounts. The holes must be drilled at the exact position as these studs and screw will be the connecting components that are connected to the back of the shelf to the wall itself.

Check for the complete set of studs and screws as most complete kits will come with it in a set. Brackets will also be included as it is vital to support the corners of the closet organizers.

If you have a average size closet drawers, it is advisable to install the closet shelves 3 ½ inches apart.

Lastly is the assembly process. There will be an instruction manual included and you need to follow it strictly if possible. Install the shelves, drawers, frames, wheels and hanging rods according to the manual. Once everything is done, you will feel a sense of satisfaction to have your closet self made for your own home and you can locate the items you need on the fly especially during times when you are in a hurry.

The advantage of having your own DIY organized closet is that it makes it easier for you to find your things and feel good about it, since you do it yourself, that’s an achievement.

Always take your time in planning how to install your closet organizer and where to place all anchors to the shelves into the studs. A very well secure closet will save you the trouble of fixing or repairing it later on in the future.

First you will need to locate where you want your closet organizer to be. You will have to take measurements in the places where you want it to be built. Next decide whether you want to include double closet rods, shelves, drawers and shoe organizers.

Next you will have to go to a local hardware store and buy the materials you need based on the design of your closet organizer you had chosen. Alright, this is how you will do your marking for your closet organizer; figure out your layout of the closet organizer and mark all your studs with a pencil and use a stud finder.

Next, this is also one of the crucial parts, you will need to draw out level lines at desired heights and add 1 by 4 lumber to support the shelves. After that, you will cut 1 by 16 lumber for shelves to desired length according to measurements and design. Nail 1 by 4 support studs to areas marked on the wall. Nail 1 by 16 lumber for the shelves to the 1 by 4 supports. I hope you are still there with me until now.

Lastly is the installation of the closet rods and support brackets. You will have to screw the closet rod support brackets which are nailed into studs to shelving of the closet organizer. Place the closet rod cup holders at the desired area and cut closet rods to desired length. Place closet rod into the closet rod cup holder and screw one screw in closet rod to secure it.

Some tips on building your own do-it-yourself closet organizer is to use 2 inch nails to secure material to 1 by 4 material into the stud. Use 1 1/8-inch nails for shelving and always always mark your studs so that it will not damage the plumbing or electrical wires that is around that area.

If you are not in a hurry to get your closet organizer then the best place to find a good closet organizer company is through the internet where you will have tons of options for you to choose from. Once you find the closet organizer company you want to buy from then contact that closet company and then request for a designer on site to sit down with you and take measurements of the closets.

If you like to DIY your own closet organizers, there are a lot of closet companies that offer do-it-yourself type of closet organizers.

One very important point to take note is that the price range for custom DIY closet organizer can vary dramatically based on the materials and labor costs of the closet organizers. It is very common that every house has a closet organizer and this is a million dollars industry. Although you want your closet organizers to be cheap but don’t overlook on the quality too. I believe you also don’t want to go too cheap and your clothing, falling, and ruining the drywall.

Some extra pointers are if you are going for wire closet organizers, is that if possible, ask for some extra plastic ends if any of the shelves do not reach wall to wall and have them.

The reason why you ask for the extra plastic ends is because these will fall off quite often without you even noticing them falling off, trust me on this. This will lead to leaving the ends of the wires exposed which in turn is way too dangerous if it is not a factory edge or you have kids or children at home. One of the main concern would be if it’s a child’s closet. I think you got what I mean.

Now as for considering the closet organizers’ design, you will need to think of your daily life routine and what will help you the most. Closet organizers are about solving your space problems thereby saving you precious time by not creating more problems and costing for you. The more time trying to find something you used to have in the open. Go get your closet organizers today, be it whether it is DIY format closet or pre-assembled closet organizers.

I used to install Do It Yourself closet organizers professionally for some new homes which I also used the opportunity to work along with some other few closet organizer installation jobs. In this blog post, I will be sharing some closet ideas you should consider when selecting a closet organizer for your own home.

For my point of view, most closet organizers are made of wire be it its white or metal finish or laminate with wood, white, or color finish or even a combination of both closet materials. Most of the time, metal clothes rods usually have a chrome or matte finish and can be cut into length to suit your closet length needs.

Do take note that some of the shelves of some wire closet organizers are cut from very long pieces of metal using a wire cutters with plastic caps put on the ends for safety. Take note of this, it’s very important for your own safety. This works like a charm in laundry rooms thereby giving you the space to hang clothing and store more laundry supplies. On the side note, linen closets organizers does well very well too! If you are not looking for a flexibility as in moving shelves up and down, left or right, linen closets organizers works very well in bedroom and walk-in closets too! But one bad point is that, once the wire of the linen closet organizers is mounted in, it doesn’t move anymore.

Laminate shelves and closet organizers are often cut and prepared shortly before installation by the closet organizers company, which allows them to customized fit your design for you. One of the biggest advantages to laminate your closet organizer is flexibility because you can move the shelves up and down within the main structure to fit the space that you need personally. It’s will be very sturdy and you do not have to worry about the closet organizers falling down even when it is done doing it yourself but it does not react well to high moisture conditions thou, do take more caution of this pointer. Usually this is not a problem in a master bedroom as opposed to a bathroom closet organizer.

Looking for a perfect DIY (Do-It-Yourself) quick fix solution to setup your closet organizer system? You have come to the right place as I will teach you how to setup one. Just buy a manufactured off-the-shelf system and install it as per the guidelines below and it will be the perfect DIY closet organizer system just for you.

Before the whole process is going to even start, you will need to make sure you have gathered all the right materials before installing your closet organizer the do-it-yourself way to save money.

Firstly, you will have to measure up from the floor all the way up for the desired height of the first shelf and then mark the wall with a pencil. Next you will need to use a carpenter’s level to mark a horizontal reference line all around the closet at that height. This step is very important, do remember it by hard.

Secondly, you will need to mount the closet shelf unit by attaching the mounting clips with screws driven directly into the wall studs. Always refer to the manufacturer’s directions when in doubt for the correct spacing of the mounting clips, I believe you don’t want to get hurt during the installation process right. If necessary, always use a hollow wall anchors to fasten the clips between wall studs. The last thing you are going to do is to attach diagonal closet shelf supports where they’re needed, best would be to refer to the manufacturer’s directions manual whenever possible.

Please note that all vinyl-coated wire systems and also all melamine-laminated particleboard systems are not created equal. A lot of people does not know this point. Many different DIY closet organizer manufacturers make both styles but their components and attachment systems aren’t always compatible with each other. My advise is to be on the safe side as much as possible therefore my advise is to stick to the same brand for any single DIY closet organizer installation.

If you always have a busy schedule and always rushing looking for things, closet organizers can really make your life much simpler and easier.

It is worth while decorating your room when at the end of the say when its done, the room looks great! It can even looked like you had just packed your room but trust me after sometime your room will start to look untidy again, therefore getting closet organizers can be a very good idea!

If you have kids, do they throw their toys everywhere around the house? Do you have a lot of garage lying around in the house? All these can really ruin the overall outlook and the style of your house. You can rest assure that closet organizers can restore it back to the way it used to be and you will be able to live comfortably and enjoy your home again.

If you want to have your tings more arrange in a more organized way, go get a closet. More of the people have a closet but the problem is most people actually just throw all their things in there and then just leave it as it is, there is as good as having no closet. When the closet is full and the item that you need will be simply be buried underneath a huge pile of other stuffs. Just by simply organizing your closet a little bit, it will be so much easier to find and get things, especially when times where you are rushing for time. A closet organizer could be what you need immediately.

Using a bedroom closet organizer can keep things really simple. If you have an extremely hectic life then the prospect of getting rid of clutter on the floor can be a daunting task. When you cannot find whatever it is that you want, it is simpler to move everything out of the way and simply put it all in the closet without thinking. However, that leaves no chance of you finding what you are looking for the next time that you go into the closet and so it can make things a lot worse for you in the long run. However, there is help available and it comes in the form of a bedroom closet organizer.

You can make or buy some shelves in the closet so that you can instantly put things in it rather than on the cold floor. The closet organizer will also free up a lots of space making the home looks cleaner and tidier. A bedroom closet organizer can really help you to keep all your things organized.

You can also try fitting in some drawers in the closet for small items storage. All of this is a great way to organize the things in your closet and to make it easier to find whatever you are looking for especially during the rush hour of yours. The upside of using closet organizer is way too much and with just a little time and effort, it can really save you a lots of time and space.

If you are still looking and searching for closet ideas, it is best to look on the internet to see what you can use to organize your closet better today. If you are creative enough and is good at DIY (Do-It-Yourself) then there is no end to what you can put in there, it will then be all down to your own personal taste and preference.
